Traditional Drawings

India, a land of contradiction, not one day is the same.
Chaos, people and animals everywhere, seldom a moment of silence.
The first time I visited India was in the year 2000, whenever I am there I keep on drawing.

Tibet country of controversy, endless mountains, snow and monks in red robes.
The drawings were made during a four week trip in the summer of 2002.
I remember the feeling of being closer to the heavens, the blue skies and the clear air.

The first time I went to China was in 2002 it was like entering a completely different world.
Communication was hard, when I returned to China five years later it was completely changed.
Change goes fast in China. The drawings were made at different times during my visits.

Thailand, the old Siam, a different country from its neighbours, never a colony.
I went to the old cities, Sukhotai and Ayutthaya to try to capture their history.
In the modern Thailand, I enjoyed great food and good conversation.

When I came out of the Trans Mongolian Express, to finally see Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, I immediately felt the emptiness.
The Gobi desert, the endless green lands with here and there some people made me realise that my world was really full.
It was a short visit in 2002 but I still want to go back.

Bali, island of the Gods
Life on Bali can not be separated from the many gods that wander the island, offerings are part of everyday life.
The drawings were made over a 8 month stay on the island, next to light there is darkness.
